Spotify or Apple Music song as your iPhone ringtone: what works
It's the most asked question, and the honest answer is no: no app can make a ringtone from a Spotify, Deezer or Apple Music song. But there are other ways to get to the same song.
Songs in streaming apps are encrypted and never leave their app. For a ringtone, you need the song as a file (bought from a site that sells files), or a video with the sound. For your alarm, Apple Music works directly.
Why it's blocked
When you download a song to listen offline, Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music save it encrypted, inside their own app. Your iPhone can only play it in that app, and only while your subscription is active. No other app, and not iOS either, can use it as a ringtone.
Be wary of sites and apps that promise to “convert Spotify to MP3”: they record the sound as it plays or get it from somewhere else, which these services' terms forbid, and they're riddled with misleading ads.
What works for a ringtone
- Buy a ready-made ringtone: the iTunes Store app sells ringtones of well-known songs, already cut. Easy, but you don't get to pick the part.
- Buy the song as a file: some sites sell MP3 or M4A files with no copy protection (artists' own stores, for example). The file is yours: see An MP3 as your iPhone ringtone.
- Start from a video: a concert video you filmed, or a TikTok video that uses the song. See A TikTok sound as your ringtone.
For your alarm, Apple Music works
The iPhone alarm, on the other hand, can play a song from your Music library: in Clock, edit the alarm, tap Sound, then Pick a song. Spotify and Deezer don't have this option. All the details in A song as your alarm sound.
What about ready-made sounds?
Phone Ringtones also has royalty-free sounds, composed for the app or picked one by one, with a new one every day (the Ready to ring list on the home screen, or Sounds). They aren't well-known songs, but they're made to ring.
